Moncton - Will Mark Messier make it to 800 points before he hangs them up? Thats the question being asked by many ASHL insiders.
The 37 year old 9 season veteran knows how to play hockey, amassing a career total of 795 points in 758 games he is the player's player. "The Moose" as many have dubbed him is well on his way into the hall of fame, but will Messier retire this year? or will he decide he can still play at a competetive level next year. The 3 time King Clancy leader only needs 5 points to put himself in the 800 point club (the only other player to do so is Mario Lemieux). This season the Moose has 25 points (9 goals, 16 assists) in 67 games while playing a leadership role to the young Iona Moose team.
"I am not going to answer any questions to my playing career, all I know is that I want to play now and win a cup here in Iona. This franchise has been my starting point and hopefully with Moose management will be my last place to call home" said Messier. When asked if he thinks he will make it to the hall of fame when his calls it a career "I don't know, and I am not really thinking about it." answered Messier.
Messiers best season came in season 2 when he picked up 46 goals and 66 assists (112 points) to capture the Art Ross trophy as the leagues top scorer, the Hart Trophy as the leagues most valuable player and the King Clancy award as the player whom best exemplifies leadership to his team. |
