Today the South Esk Scotsmen took part in a three-way deal that involved the Bathurst Titan and the Iona Moose organizations. The team, hot off its third win in a row, did not part with any of its pro players in the deal but rather picked up a player highly regarded by the team and its management. Zdeno Chara, a Czechoslovakian born blue-liner standing 6’ 9” and weighing 250 lbs, has been in the sights of GM Shannon Goodfellow for some time.
“Chara is a monster, in the best sense of the word, and he is what fans in South Esk have grown to love. He hits hard and plays defense well for his age, and will hopefully only get better as he matures. He will help this season in Victoria, where a defensemen of his caliber will help greatly, and in the future we hope he will be a HUGE addition to the Scotsmen,” said GM Goodfellow.
Goodfellow also announced that while he’s uncertain of his own future in Victoria, his main goal from the trade deadline on will be winning games for the team and working toward a possible Golden Blocker award.
“At my age, I can’t expect much more for my career. I got to play and work along side Brodeur as well as other future stars of the ASHL. I may return to the team next season, but we have at least one young goalie that will be starving for time next year and I have to consider the team before my own personal wants. If I get a chance to go out on top, I may just have to take it and be proud of what I did with my time as a player. I also have a lot of duties that require my attention in the front office, so that also will factor into my decision. For now, I have games to win” |
