Today the Scotsmen look like a team on a mission. Rob DiMaio, a long time Scotsman and two-time Stanley Cup champion, has returned for another run at Lord Stanley’s Cup. The Scotsmen, who currently sit atop a tight Campbell conference, look poised for their third straight try at a championship. The deal today involved young star left wing Markus Naslund, as well as highly regarded prospect Darcy Tucker, going to Bathurst along with tough guy Shawn Anderson and a 2nd round pick this season for DiMaio, blue-line prospect Oleg Tverdosky, Al Iafrate, an Iona 1st round pick this season and a Tignish 2nd next.
With the deal the free agent DiMaio will become one of the many South Esk has yet to sign this year. An ever-increasing salary on the team shows their determination to win this year’s Stanley Cup, but it will become more of a concern in the next two seasons. How GM Goodfellow will handle it along with a minor league career is difficult to say.
