Bathurst - Things appeared to be normal again today as Sullivan has been busy at the trade deadline like everyone expected. The only surprise is that he parted with one of his first rounders for the upcoming draft. Within the last 3 days we have seen 4 deals made the smallest of which saw Daniel Briere and Oleg Petrov traded to the Riverview Wildcats for James Black who signed as a free agent with the Wildcats in the past off season in a move that was believed to be revenge for a high contract offer made by the Shippigan Tigers on Wildcats free agent Pat LaFontaine. Black saw his first action of the season and has 2 assists in 2 games so far.
In a deal that involved 3 teams the Titan went out and acquired defenceman Oleg Tverdovsky and a 1st round selection in the upcoming draft for dman Zdeno Chara and a 2nd round pick in this years draft. Zdeno Chara was the first overall pick in last years entry draft but Chara wasn't developing the way that the organization hoped on.
Then hours after that deal in a surprise move Sullivan sent recently acquired Souray back to Mr. Kenny and the St. John organization in a large deal where the Titan received Viktor Kozlov, Martin St. Louis, SJB S9 Rnd1, HAR S9 Rnd1 and $4,000,000 cash in exchange for Eric Lindros, Sheldon Souray, RIV S9 Rnd2 and SOU S9 Rnd2. The key to this deal for the Titan was you right winger Martin St. Louis who the coaching staff are looking forward to big things for in the near future. St. Louis' agent is excepted to meet with Sullivan near the end of the regular season to renegotiate a contract.
In a weird unexcepted deal the Titan sent defenceman Oleg Tverdovsky to South Esk not even 24 hours after he arrived along with superstar Rob DiMaio, Al Iafrate a 1st this year and a 2nd next for young star left winger Markus Naslund and center Darcy Tucker, Shawn Anderson along with a 2nd in this years draft. Sullivan was believed to be looking for a young LWer to replace DiMaio with and the fact that Naslund was signed made it that much better.
It is believed that after a long morning of wheeling and dealing that Sullivan is finally finshed making any deals til the offseaon. Sullivan said "Today was a good day we may have not gotten everything that we wanted but I think all in all it was a good day." It is believed that the one thing that Sullivan didn't get that he wanted was your LWer Todd Bertuzzi from the Dungarvin Whoopers who apparently turned down an offer that included everything including the kitchen sink. The only other rumour coming from Bathurst Titan is that Sullivan is considering retiring at seasons end. |
