Team news
Nervous GM, Angry Fans
Posted: 9/17/2004 By Happy Madison

Riverview - The Riverview Wildcats fans are wondering why general manager Jeff Nagle didn't even flinch at a trade during trade deadline day. Many believed he would deal off many of the teams defencemen in an attempt to get something out of the free agents who don't seem interested in remaining Wildcats. With the team in a recent skid, and farm talent dropping many believed there would be a move or two to mix things up, but nothing happened.

"We believed for sure that the Wildcats would be big players at this years deadline day, they have many key free agents that are destined to become open to the market and knowing the general style of the GM there, we were surprised that the Wildcat camp was silent" said TSN hockey insider Bob MacKenzie.

In his defence the GM of the Wildcats wrote this statement "We know we were expected to pawn off many of our free agents in an attempt to salvage something out of them, but we believe we have a legitimate shot at our 4th Stanley Cup with this team and are willing to leave free agency to the last minute. If we don't win a cup or even get deep into the playoffs and can't come to an agreements with many of our free agents, we will be in position to reluctantly start a rebuilding process. It seems as though many of our free agents are seeking substantial pay raises that we simply cannot afford. We have made it clear all season long that our goal is to trim the payroll, and we are sticking to it." wrote the GM.

Rebuild, something that Wildcat fans are not used to. In the 9 seasons of existance the Wildcat franchise has been the top team in the ASHL. With 3 Cups and 5 straight finals trips and numeros other team and player awards, this franchise appears to have hit the wall in terms of player talent... maybe even has run out of gas.
