| In 1892, Lord Stanley of Preston presented a silver cup in order to inspire championship-level hockey in Canada. The silver cup was purchased in Sheffield, England for 10 guineas ($48.67 US at the time). Lord Stanley never witnessed a championship game nor attended a trophy presentation, but his reward has endured and now goes to the NFHL champions each year. |
