ASHL Press - In what will more than likely be his last season in the ASHL, Brendan Shanahan has the chance to take over top spot in the career points race.
Needing only 57 points to take over the great Mario Lemieux might give him the motivation to kick it up a notch this year for the Whoopers. The all time points record was once thought of as being untouchable when Lemieux retired but now with Shanahan showing his unmatched longevity it seems very plausible that he could surpass the legend.
The future hall of famer is already on pace to surpass recently retired center Mike Modano to move himself into the all time lead in pro games played, he only needs 20 games to pass the Scotsmen great. Brendan also only needs 7 goals to pass Modano on the all time goal scoring list and is a long shot to surpass Mario Lemieux's total of 816 assists in a career, Shanny is 102 assists shy of that benchmark.
Simply put, Brendan Shanahan's decision to hang on for one more season could cement his stature as the league's all time best. A feat that he has quietly garnered season after season. It will be a combined effort from Shanahan as well as the Dungarvin Whooper's management and coachnig staff to give Shanahan all the ice time that he will need to fade off into the ASHL sunset as the best player in ASHL history. |
