Royals Completely Overhaul Forward Group

By Jeff Nagle

Whoa!

In a fleury of league-wide trades yesterday, the Riverview Royals got in the action and completely overhauled their entire forward group. A few familiar faces return, and a few fan favorites were shipped out. In the end, the fans in Loggieville are more excited, and the fans in Riverview are left scratching their heads.

Here's how the trades went down.

Deal #1

Riverview Royals send Isac Lundestrom, Veini Vehvilainen to the Moncton Melons for Jason Robertson, Mackenzie Blackwood, S14 BAT 2

This deal was paramount to what was to come next as Blackwood would be shipped off to Bathurst. However, in this move, the Royals pick up Jason Robertson who has been a consistent point-producer his entire career.

Deal #2

Riverview Royals send Andrei Svechnikov, MacKenzie Blackwood to the Bathurst Angry Ducks for Matthew Tkachuk, Barrett Hayton, Fedor Svechkov, Darius Kasparitis, Craig Anderson, Matt Murray, S14 BAT 1 S15 SOU 2

This whopper of a trade sent off another Royal favorite in Svechnikov in exchange the Royals pick up Tkachuk, a familiar face to Royals fans, and utilitarian Barrett Hayton. What was key to this deal was the Royals picking up 18 year old, and former 1st overall draft pick in the last draft, Craig Anderson. The highly touted goalie will be the foundation for the Royals rebuild. Also in the deal are "agitarian" Darius Kasparitis and smooth skating Fedor Svechkov. The draft picks were also key ingredients to making this one work.

Deal #3

Riverview Royals send S14 SOU 1, S14 BAT 2, Brock Boeser, Mathew Barzal to the Oromocto Senators for Robert Thomas and Sebastian Aho

This deal may be a bit confusing considering the picks involved, however, the Royals have been adamant that they will not be a doormat team, and will make opponents respect them on the schedule. In picking up a fan favourite Aho, fans will be a little happier to have someone they identify. Thomas is a very talented forward and slots in as the team's #1 centre. Both Barzal and Boeser, future UFAs, were considered cap casualties in this deal, "bodies in and bodies out."

With this many deals, GM Nagle has put the final touches on a roster overhaul that will now net them a farm system completely flush with young talent and future picks.

"We're now at the tipping point of having too many prospects in the fold. But we can handle it. Each prospect is like a lottery ticket, you never know which one will hit big, and well, we have lots of tickets in the drum." said GM Nagle

"We're now in the position to have two competitive lines with a third line that may surprise a few teams. Will we win some games, of course! Will we lose more games than we win? who knows! But we have a roster worth respecting, and a farm team worth fearing. All the pressure is on Loggieville now." chuckled GM Nagle
