South Esk captures second straight ODBHL Cup, becomes first franchise to win three titles
For the second straight season, the South Esk Scotsmen are kings of the ODBHL.
In a hard-fought six-game series against the Miramichi Moose, the defending champions proved once again that championship DNA runs deep in South Esk. The series had everything: tight checking, clutch goals, overtime drama, and the kind of performances that define playoff legends.
When the final horn sounded in Game 6 overtime, the Scotsmen had secured their second consecutive ODBHL Cup and their third championship in franchise history, making them the first team ever to reach that mark.
But if you ask anyone in South Esk, the story isn’t just about what they accomplished.
It’s about what might come next.

Game 6 Heroics: Askarov Slams the Door
The deciding moment came in Game 6.
With the series at 3–2 in favor of South Esk, the Moose threw everything they had at the Scotsmen, desperate to push the series back to Miramichi for a Game 7.
Standing in their way was Yaroslav Askarov.
The Scotsmen goaltender delivered one of the defining performances of the postseason, turning aside wave after wave of Moose chances before the Scotsmen finally buried the overtime winner.
“That’s the moment every goalie dreams about,” Askarov said afterward.
“But it’s easy when you have a team like this in front of you.”
Teammates disagreed.
“He stole it,” said defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. “Absolutely stole it.”

Raymond Leads the Charge
While the goaltending sealed the series, the Scotsmen offense never let the pressure ease.
Lucas Raymond once again proved to be one of the most dangerous playoff performers in the league, leading the team in postseason scoring and consistently driving the Scotsmen attack.
Opposing coaches tried to contain him.
Few succeeded.

Pettersson’s Goal Scoring Surge
Captain Elias Pettersson delivered one of the most electrifying playoff runs of his career, finishing with 11 goals and repeatedly finding the net at critical moments.
Whether it was power plays, breakaways, or quick strikes off the rush, Pettersson seemed to have a knack for striking exactly when the team needed him most.
“That’s leadership,” said the head coach.
“Not speeches. Goals.”

Third Line Lightning: Kravtsov Breakout
One of the surprise stories of the postseason came from the third line, where Vitali Kravtsov emerged as an unlikely difference-maker.
Playing under the guidance of veteran superstar Nikita Kucherov, Kravtsov blossomed into one of the playoffs’ most productive depth scorers.
- 13 points in 15 games
- Several key momentum-shifting goals
- A growing confidence that turned heads across the league
“Kuch has been teaching him everything,” said one teammate.
“It’s like watching a master and apprentice.”
Kucherov himself had another outstanding playoff run, continuing to add to a résumé that already reads like a future Hall of Fame plaque.

The Next Mountain: A Three-Peat
Three championships in a row.
It’s the one thing that has never been done in ODBHL history.
Not by the early powerhouses.
Not by the great dynasties of past seasons.
Not by anyone.
But now the Scotsmen stand closer than any team ever has.
They’ve climbed the mountain twice.
Now there’s only one summit left.
And if the rest of the league thought chasing the Scotsmen was hard before…
…it just got a whole lot harder. 🏆🏆
