The NHL Equivalents

By Jeff Nagle

For fun, let's compare our ODBHL teams with current NHL teams!

Renegade = New York Islanders

A team of plucky veterans that can either dominate or deflate. In recent seasons they have been doing more and more to establish a presence and they do have some youthful options that may surprise us all and go on a deep run.

Ducks = Dallas Stars

One of the more exciting teams with a plethora of offensive options. A team of stars with no real dominant superstars (aside from Blackwood), they are a lethal team if you take them lightly and will outscore you in a track meet.

Blues = Tampa Bay Lightning

An aging team that is still in the mix, and can still break your dreams in the playoffs. With depth and talent alone they will find a way to win.

Devils = Utah ???

Everyone is questioning what is going on with the bottomed out team. However, there is faith that current ownership will right the ship.

Moose = Detroit Red Wings

A veteran GM who has won it all before piecing together a new core. Nobody is questioning whether or not he can do it again.

Melons = Florida Panthers

Never think of them as a marquee team until they beat you and you look at their roster and go.. "oh wow!." They got the complete package without the flair.

Senators = Ottawa Senators

You look at their roster and think "why isnt this kicking everyone's ass?" They got a pelthra of young talent that just can't seem to fit together, but once they do. Look out!

Royals = Boston Bruins

Aging roster that just seems to keep on plugging away. You keep looking for them to fall off, but they won't. They are always in the mix to go for a deep playoff run.

Kings = Toronto Maple Leafs

A whole lotta talent that does a brilliant job in the regular season, but once the playoffs start they dissapear faster than condoms at the Playboy mansion.

Scotsmen = New Jersey Devils

A reconstructed cautiously offensive team that is deep with veteran leadership at the top. They built around smooth skating, speed and defense with a little bit of physicality thrown in.
