Royals Acquire Olausson

By Jeff Nagle

Earlier this morning the Riverview Royals acquired 21-year-old prospect forward Oskar Olausson and veteran defenseman Jonas Brodin from the Albert County Renegade in exchange for Alber County's second round pick in the upcoming draft.

Olausson has 192 points in 232 career farm league games and factors as a longshot to make a top six role in the ODBHL, however, prospects are wildcards and the Royals are banking on this wildcard to come up with an Ace.

"Oskar is a quality depth player that will give us an offensive boost on our farm team. He has a nose for the net and skates very well. We're hoping that he can grow into a top 9 forward role for us someday down the road, but in the meantime can be a meaningful contributor on a top-flight farm club." said GM Nagle

In the deal, the Royals pick up a familiar face in Jonas Brodin. Brodin spent three seasons with the Royals and was a decent contributor on the third pairing while playing for the then retooling Royals.

"Brodin is a quality individual and someone we wanted to bring in to help our young defenseman in Loggieville learn the pro game. He has indicated that he is likely to retire at the end of the season so his tenure here will be short. That being said, he may find an opportunity in Loggieville in a scouting or coaching role, something he has expressed an interest in." finished the GM.

Building a team is all about tweaks and unexpected adjustments to bring different results. This smaller trade made by the Royals is a textbook example of one of those tweaks, a tweak that the Royals management is hoping will turn into found gold.
