Tighter Then an Oil Drum!

By John Kenny

What an exciting season in the ODBHL.  There is a tight race to the top of the standings which traditionally has been a 2 dog race each season has fans totally confused so far this season.  Sitting two thirds of the way through the season we see 3-4 teams who could legitimately take the league by the reins and win themselves a Barbarian Trophy.  The list of real contenders for a cup expands even beyond those 3-4 teams with any number of teams taking control of their games on any given night.

Currently The Saint John Kings share top spot with the South Esk Scotsmen who have a game in hand.  The Cains River Blues, the Riverview Royals, Moncton Melons and Miramichi Moose are all planting their heels in the ground refusing to fall behind, all within 6 points of the league leaders.   Never before have we seen this tightness of records amidst the teams in the top half of the standings

Saint John GM John Kenny has appeared to be a little quieter during this season after stringing together 5 trades in the first week.  When asked about his change of heart Kenny responded “ I

am trying to give the fine City of Saint John the opportunity to get to know some of the players this season, I have been told by a few former players that in the past Saint John was referred to as “The place to not unpack” and I don’t really want to foster that environment here.  Don’t get me wrong, if the deal I feel is right comes along I will always pull the trigger but I have spent a little less time searching.  We have fallen short of a cup with some great teams and I am looking to change that for the Loyalist City fans!  We are looking for nothing short of a cup!  I know the rental period is here and the trade deadline is upon us so we will just assess other teams moves and see if we feel we need to make adjustments.”

Kenny has seemed to leave things up in the air on if we expect out hometeam Kings will make any acquisitions at the the deadline, but I expect will will see some change, it would not be Saint John if there was none.  Once the deadline has past the Telegraph Journal will be doing a summary of the moves that got us to this point.
