Team on Fire

By John Kenny

The Loyalist City has remained in a frenzy almost all of this season and it was brought to the light again this past week when the Saint John Kings clinched a playoff spot with 18 games remaining in the season.  This feat was accomplished by the Kings on the same day the South Esk Scotsmen managed to clinch a playoff berth in the Lemieux conference.  Saint John has amassed 90 points in a 57 game span, putting them in position to potentially break the league record of 104 points, which the Kings recorded this past season.

There was an outcry heard from anonymous sources around the league while the Kings pounded out a 30 game win streak to begin the season.  There were whispers of collusion, funny business and outright cheating that began to weigh on some of the Saint John Kings players.  When confronted with these accusations, Liam Foudy responded “As Captain of this group of guys, I can attest that our success is due to the hard work this whole organization has committed to.  The boys work hard day in and day out because they know their comrades depend on them to carry their own weight.  We will do everything in our power to bring home another cup to the great fans of this Loyalist City team!”

The Saint John team did finally come back to earth to the joy of many in the ODBHL fanbase, however those in Canada’s oldest city were becoming accustomed to the Kings dominance.  The team has gone 14-11-1 since the early season run but the team has still looked sharp on many of those 14 wins. To this point in the season they have only lost 7 games by more than 1 goal and only 2 games by more than 2 goals.

The Saint John Kings have been riding out a combination of solid goaltending and a defensively responsible system with some outstanding offensive contributions fro some of the usual suspects.  The team is trying to pull together another winning streak so the fans can continue to look forward to another deep cup run.
