Bring On The Playoffs!

By John Kenny

With another regular season drawing to a close, the air is electric in the Loyalist City.  The team finished the season clinching the team's sixth Barbarian Trophy in the team's storied history amassing 110 points, crushing the league record of 104 points which was set by the Kings last season.  The Saint John Kings were also well over a plus 100, making the plus 88 achieved the season before seem insignificant.  Despite the mountainous feats achieved by the Kings this season, it all goes for naught if Saint John can’t overcome a very talented Miramichi Moose team who have often proved to be a thorn in the side of the Loyalist City team.  This Moose team has to be proven to just be a stepping stone for the Kings though to achieve true success because with a season like the Kings have had, anything less than Cup  victory is going to be seen as failure by the fans of the ODBHL.  As a journalist who has covered the team 95 percent of the time since day 1, I can assure you there are many other teams fans who would love to see GM John Kenny's concoction fall flat on its face.  With so many teams in the ODBHL on the upswing, building momentum, it seems like the Saint John Kings have to strike while the iron is still hot, as the competition is getting stronger every season.

When interviewed, defending Curtis Joseph award winning goaltender Logan Thompson spoke candidly.  “We had a heckuva season and we still have a long way to go before we can be willing to rest.  We owe our team mates, the management who believed in us and most importantly this fan base our 100% effort to bring home a Cup to the Oldest City in Canada.  We will not quit!”.  Right after the last whistle blew on the season an emotional Captain Liam Foudy addressed the fans from centre ice at Harbour Station “We will do everything we can for you!  Thank you for all of your support!”  It appears GM John Kenny was not just seeking talent but to build a team so the blue collar fanbase can celebrate with a team that loves it’s home city.

Now, with a Barbarian Trp[hy in tow and a group of players anxious to show the best effort that can put forward, the Kings are making it known far and wide, bring on the playoffs!
