The Royals announced this morning that they have reached a 2 year extension with forward Robert Thomas. The 29-year-old forward has played a crucial top line role with the Royals and has been very productive netting four goals and 18 assists in 26 games played. The extension will pay the would-be UFA $11.5m over two seasons for an AAV of $5.75m, $50k shy of his current AAV.
"We're excited to bring back Robby for another two seasons. He has been a great success for us this year and his consistency is welcomed in a very turbulent season. He brings leadership and stability to a lineup that will soon become a little younger in the seasons ahead." said GM Nagle of the signing.
It may have come at a surprise that the veteran forward signed so quickly. However, Thomas was adamant that he wanted to remain a Royal and see this team return to its glory days of winning hockey.
"I'm just grateful to play everyday and to have that chance here in Riverview is top shelf. I told my agent to get it done, and well, he did. I am glad to be a part of this team for the next couple of years and look forward to playing any role that is needed of me. Heck, I'd play net if they asked." chuckled the newly resigned Thomas.
With another brick in place, the Royals top six is starting to shape up. With Lundestrom, Farabee, Stutzle and Thomas, they have a strong veteran presence who will be welcoming youngsters Luc Robitalle and Dave Andreychuk to the fold next season.
