Mired in a three week slump, the Riverview Royals are rumoured to be in talks with the Cains River Blues for star winger Kailer Yamamoto.
Yamamoto, 29, is due to become an unrestricted free agent at season's end. However, it is rumoured that for the deal to be completed he has to agree to an extension with the Royals. There has been no mention of what the exact return would be other than "a prospect and a pick." What that turns out to be is anyone's guess.
By acquiring Yamamoto, the Royals will add another offensive piece with a physical upside. Something that the Royals have been lacking. It is not known where he would fit in the Royals lineup, however early indications is that he will be a 3rd line option with options to play on the power play.
While the chances of becoming a Cup favourite are slim to none, the Royals are positioning themselves to be in the hunt next season. With the likes of youngsters Dave Andreychuk and Luc Robitaille looking to make their official debuts next season, it stands to reason that the Royals are doing everything in their power to pad them with star talent.
