"We're going to be a better team"

By Jeff Nagle

The Riverview Royals are not sitting around collecting top draft picks for the foreseeable future. With a top 2 pick in the upcoming draft that will yield them either sharp shooter forward Brett Hull or the more all-rounded Luc Robitaille, the Royals management is not about to make it a habit to draft so high next year.

"We're going to be a better team. Building on what we have as a new core moving forward with guys like Davy (Andreychuk), Andy (Craig Anderson), and either Hull or Robitaille, we will move forward with a win sooner than later approach. We've already made a couple of deals to bring in a couple top six forwards that will help insulate the young guys moving forward."

Does that mean we'll see an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old on the pro roster next season?

"It sure does. With the caliber of veteran players we have now on the roster, we feel confident that a young player will thrive. That being said, I highly doubt we'll see Andy this season. Goaltenders typically take a little longer to hone their skills. He'll have another dominant season in Loggieville and there's a good chance we'll see him play some games in season 15." said GM Nagle.

Who are the veteran stars the Royals have deals in place to acquire and from where?

"We're not at liberty to say yet. The playoffs are still ongoing and it wouldn't be best to announce any big trades like this during this time." finished the GM.

It's safe to say that the long nights of rebuilding hockey is over for the Royals. Games will soon mean something again other than trying to win a lottery pick. With a prospect-stocked farm team, and a new youthful core, the Royals are poised to be a top tier hockey club again in the ODBHL as soon as next season.
